Regular readers will be aware of the design for a new steam locomotive, outlined in issue 55. Letters of support for the prospect of a new-technology steam locomotive have been coming in and interest is starting to be generated.

We are pleased to be able to show what the proposed 4-6-0 would look like thanks to the work of Robin Barnes in translating the technical drawing into a most revealing artist's impression. So new to the eye is the combination of features in the design that I am sure the aesthetics will be hotly debated. The combination of elements has come together for sound engineering and design reasons and the striking appearance is a result of these factors. Write in and tell us what you think!
